NGA'A
SHIV
A devout teenager must choose between the religion that shaped him
and the ancestral warrior bloodline he was raised to fear.
The Story
NGA'A SHIV is a 2D animated action-fantasy film rooted in the myths of Cameroon's Grassfield regions — Nso, Bamoum, and Bamileke. It's a story I've been carrying for years, and it's finally taking shape.
The film follows Fonyuy, a devout religious teenager who discovers he has been chosen by an ancestral warrior order called the Nga'a Shiv — the very spirits his church taught him to fear. As supernatural forces awaken inside him, he faces an impossible question: can he protect his community without rejecting the faith that raised him? Or is the only way forward to reconcile worlds that were never meant to meet?
This is not a culture lesson disguised as a story. It's action, it's conflict, and it's deeply personal. If you've ever felt torn between two identities — modern and traditional, faithful and curious — this film is for you.
Influences that shaped the tone:
- The spiritual depth of Avatar: The Last Airbender
- The mythological richness of Kirikou and the Sorceress
- The combat intensity of Jujutsu Kaisen
- The emotional growth journey of Naruto
But told through authentic Cameroonian myths and the real tension of living between belief systems.
Cameroon's Grassfield regions hold myths, symbols, and cosmology that have never been explored in action animation. NGA'A SHIV brings them to the world stage through:
- Nso, Bamoum, and Bamileke mythology — not as decoration, but as narrative backbone
- Spirit battles rooted in African cosmology, not borrowed from Western fantasy
- A modern urban setting where churches and traditional palaces stand on the same street
- A story about radicalization, belief, and identity — questions that transcend borders
Why This Story Exists
I grew up watching heroes who looked nothing like me. I want the next generation of African kids to have a hero who carries their own ancestors in his veins. NGA'A SHIV exists to:
- Reconcile our religious and modern identities with the traditional heritage that shaped us
- Show the world the richness of Grassfield culture — not as a museum exhibit, but as living mythology
- Prove that African fantasy can stand shoulder to shoulder with any global IP
- Spark curiosity in young creators to seek and celebrate their own origins
This story is Cameroonian in setting — universal in theme. It's about finding yourself between two worlds, which is a feeling everyone, everywhere, understands.

Where We Are Now
Right now, we are building a 5-minute proof-of-concept pilot centered on Sikem Asherinyuy — the warrior whose arrival sets Fonyuy's journey in motion. This pilot is designed to:
- Showcase the world, tone, and action language of the universe
- Compete at major animation festivals globally
- Serve as a concrete proof of concept for co-production and streaming partners
This pilot is the gateway. The feature film is the destination.
